Sentient Pillar

And on the very last day, a pale pillar fell down onto the earth.
And everyone who lay eye upon it began to weep.
A machine of sort, and a headless snake was its companion.
And it wept with us for all the lives that we had defiled.
And it devoured those who would not weep.
